February Maternity Session at Shanahan Ridge | Boulder, CO
Meagan and Zach’s maternity session took place during a mild February evening at Shanahan Ridge in Boulder. They’re first-time parents-to-be, married for five years, and very ready for this next chapter after a long journey to get here. From the start, the energy felt calm and joyful—equal parts excitement and quiet reflection. It was a session rooted in love, anticipation, and ease.
Why Shanahan Ridge worked so well
Shanahan Ridge is one of those Boulder locations that offers a lot without asking much in return. Easy street parking and a short, three-minute uphill walk lead to open fields, forested edges, and wide mountain views. Shooting at golden hour in the winter gave us soft, directional light without the intensity of summer sun. The muted seasonal colors paired beautifully with the mountains in the background, keeping everything feeling grounded and peaceful.
Styling notes inspired by this shoot
Meagan wore a flowy, cream-colored dress that moved effortlessly in the breeze and highlighted her bump in a natural way. The softness of the fabric added gentle movement, which photographed beautifully in the low winter light. Both Meagan and Zach chose light-colored outfits that stood out against the deep forest greens behind them—an easy reminder that simple, intentional color choices can make a big difference.
A meaningful moment from the session
At one point, Meagan paused and got a little choked up talking about their baby girl and how long it took to get here. Zach quietly held her, letting the moment be what it was. We slowed down, gave space for that feeling, and kept things gentle. Those few minutes said more than any posed photo ever could.
