Families & Babies
These are the sessions closest to my heart — the ones that document your family exactly as it is right now, in whatever season you're in.
Maternity
A maternity session is about documenting this exciting, in-between season—the anticipation of meeting someone you already love so much. Whether this is your first baby or your family is growing again, it's a chance to slow down, take it all in, and remember what life felt like right before everything changed.
Most sessions are best booked between 28–34 weeks, when your bump is full but you're still comfortable moving around.
While we'll make plenty of space to focus on you and your changing body, your partner and children are encouraged to be part of the session, too. After all, this is a new chapter for all of you. We can stay home and document the quiet anticipation of these days in the place where you're preparing to welcome your baby, or head somewhere outside that feels beautiful or meaningful to you. Your session can be intimate and slow, playful with your older kids, romantic with your partner—or a little bit of everything. As always, I'll offer plenty of guidance while leaving room for you to simply be together and soak in this season before the next one begins.
Book NowNewborn
A newborn session is a way to remember your baby in all their newness, and the feeling of those tender, hazy first days together. The sleepy snuggles, tiny stretches and yawns, dimpled skin, tiny fingers, and all the realness that comes with finding your new rhythm as a family.
Sessions can take place in the hospital during those first 48 hours (known as a "Fresh 48" session) or in the comfort of your own home.
Either way, your session is intentionally slow, relaxed, and completely baby-led. No perfectly styled nursery or spotless living room required. Feed them, change them, rock them, take a break when you need to—I'll work around you. My job is to make photos the easiest thing on your plate while documenting all those tiny details and everyday moments that become harder and harder to remember as the newborn blur fades.
"Kelly! These are SO GOOD — I truly didn't even know what to expect given the chaos you had to work with but, pardon my French, HOLY SHIT. Thank you so much"
Motherhood
A motherhood session is all about you and your children—documenting your relationship and what this season of motherhood feels like right now. We'll make space for a few classic portraits, but most of our time will be spent simply being together: snuggling, playing, exploring, laughing, and letting your kids be themselves. I will collaborate with you to dream up what sorts of authentic activities you can do (ex: picnic, baking, bath/shower, crafting). These sessions are relaxed and lightly guided, with plenty of room for the real moments to unfold. It's a chance to slow down, be present with your kids, and step out from behind the camera.
Because you deserve to exist in the photographic record of their childhood, too.
Family
Come exactly as you are, ready to enjoy the present moments.
I encourage this session to be purely about loving your kids, connecting with each other, playing, and having fun together — there's no need to stress. There's always room for a few classic portraits, but the focus is on capturing the way you naturally are together. You can choose to stay right at home (my absolute favorite!), documenting your family in the place where you feel most like yourselves and letting the genuine heart of your daily routines take center stage. Or maybe your family comes alive when you're out and about. We can wander a favorite trail, marvel at the mountains, skip rocks in the creek, hit the splash pad, grab treats at your favorite coffee shop, stroll around downtown, ride bikes through the neighborhood, or even document a family camping trip (just to name a few ideas). We can head somewhere you already love or dream up a little adventure together — the point is to choose something that brings out your family's connection.
Book Your Session
Send me a note through my contact form and tell me a little about you and what you have in mind. We'll choose a date, and a signed contract + 50% retainer will make it official.
Finalize the Plans
You'll receive my Client Experience Guide. We'll talk about location, what to wear, and anything else that will help the session feel like you.
Show Up + Be You
Let's have fun! I'll give plenty of gentle direction when you need it, but mostly, your job is to be present with your people. Fair warning: there may be belly laughs.
Fleeting Moments, Forever Yours
Within two weeks, your edited images will land in a private online gallery, ready to download, share, print, and come back to again and again.
FAQ
What should I wear?
Once you book, you'll receive my Client Experience Guide with plenty of styling tips and everything you need to know before your session. I'll also check in about what you're thinking of wearing. At the end of the day, I want you to wear something that feels like you — comfortable, confident, and like your best, most authentic self.
Quick tip for parents: If you're not feeling keen on buying a gorgeous outfit for one session and then staring at it in the closet for two years, my friend and local Boulder mom at stork built the fix. It's a monthly wardrobe rental for the littles: you pick six pieces from a catalog of high end brands and styles (from preppy and traditional to casual streetwear), they arrive at your door, and you send them back when you're done. No storage bins, no guilt, no "I have to buy a nice outfit in addition to investing in family photos". Browse the catalog at rentstork.com and @rentstork on Instagram!
What happens if it rains?
Cloudy skies are totally fine! Overcast days can actually give us beautiful, flattering light — and Colorado has a way of surprising us with an incredible sunset when we least expect it. If the forecast calls for significant rain, we'll reschedule.
Can we include our pets?
Absolutely! If they're part of your family, they're welcome in your photos. In-home sessions make including pets especially easy, but you're also welcome to bring them along to an outdoor session when the location allows.
How far in advance should I book?
As soon as you start thinking, I want to do this! Ideally, reach out at least a month before your preferred timeframe. But whether you're dreaming about something six months from now or two weeks away, it never hurts to reach out.
How does choosing an outdoor location work?
I'll start by asking if you already have a location in mind. If not, I'll ask what you're drawn to, consider who's coming and the season, and send you a few options to choose from. Rather not make another decision? I'm happy to pick for you.
When will I receive my photos?
Most galleries are delivered within two weeks of your session. Micro-weddings, elopements, and special events are delivered within three weeks.
