Lost Gulch Overlook Engagement Session in October | Ari & Andrew
Ari and Andrew’s engagement session at Lost Gulch Overlook felt intentional from start to finish. Their story spans Richmond, Denver, three cats, and a proposal rooted in both meaning and movement with the earth itself. October’s golden hour brought just the right mix of softness and drama to match their connection. The result was a session that felt romantic, grounded, and full of personality.
Why this location and time of day worked well
Lost Gulch Overlook is known for its wide-open views and dramatic rock formations, but golden hour is when it truly settles into something special. The low sun wrapped the mountains in warm light while the wind added motion and texture to every frame. October gave us moody skies and cooler tones, which paired beautifully with the bold styling and the natural stone around us.
Styling and session tips inspired by this shoot
Ari and Andrew came prepared with two distinct outfits and a bouquet of dried flowers, which gave the session variety while keeping everything cohesive. Bringing multiple looks is a great way to show different sides of your relationship—one more elevated, one more relaxed. Thoughtful accessories, like florals or meaningful objects, can add visual interest without feeling staged. Preparation always shows, and their polished look elevated the entire gallery.
A meaningful moment from the session
One of my favorite moments was when they pulled out two framed photos of themselves with the kittens they raised from birth. They absolutely lit up telling me their story, and those frames became such a personal and unexpected detail in their photos. Also worth noting: Ari confidently scrambling across boulders in high heels was truly impressive. Fearless energy all around.
A soft note for future couples
Lost Gulch Overlook during golden hour is a beautiful choice for couples who want wind-swept views, dramatic light, and a romantic, slightly moody feel. If you’re dreaming of engagement photos that feel intentional and connected to your story, I’d love to help you plan something that reflects who you are together.
