Fall Family Photos at Bobolink Trail in Boulder | Bean Family Session

The Bean family chose to schedule a fall family session simply because they wanted to celebrate this season of life together. No milestone, no special occasion—just time carved out to be present with one another. October at Bobolink Trail gave us warm light, open space, and the kind of setting that invites kids to explore. It felt relaxed, playful, and very true to who they are as a family.

Bobolink Trail worked beautifully for this session because it’s both scenic and easy to access. The paved path alongside a tree-lined creek made it simple for the kids to move around without feeling confined. With the Flatirons in the distance and even a few cows grazing in the nearby field, the backdrop felt unmistakably Boulder. Golden hour added soft light and long shadows that brought out the warmth of the fall colors and the family’s natural connection.

One styling detail I loved was how thoughtfully coordinated their outfits were. The layers added texture and depth without feeling too matchy, and the color palette photographed so well against the autumn landscape. Mom surprised the whole family with brand new Nike sneakers for the session, which turned into a fun visual thread throughout their photos. Don’t be afraid to lean into small details like shoes, jackets, or accessories—they can add personality and tell a story without overpowering the images.

What stood out most was how kind and connected this family was with one another. Dad kept things light and silly, which had everyone laughing almost immediately. Madeline was especially sweet with her younger twin brothers, helping them over rocks and fallen branches along the trail. Those in-between moments—guiding a hand, sharing a laugh, slowing down for each other—became some of the most meaningful parts of the session.

This type of session is perfect for families who want to document the stage their kids are in right now, before it shifts into something new. These years move quickly, and I always encourage families to schedule at least one session a year to honor them. If you’re thinking about a relaxed, natural family session in Boulder, I’d love to help you plan something that feels like you.
