Late Fall Engagement Photos at Chautauqua Park | Katie & Jax in Boulder, CO

Warm late afternoon engagement portraits of couple embracing at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado

Katie and Jax’s engagement session felt full of warmth and ease, even on a late November afternoon. They arrived excited, a little nervous, and clearly very in love. Since this was their first time having professional photos taken together, we focused on keeping things relaxed and natural. Their goal was simple: photos that felt romantic and true to who they are.

Why Chautauqua Park worked so well

Chautauqua Park is one of my favorite Boulder engagement session locations because it’s both beautiful and accessible. We stayed close to the parking lot on flat walking paths and grassy areas, which made moving between spots easy and stress-free. The end of golden hour in late November gave us soft, warm light without the crowds you see in summer. It was the perfect balance of mountain views and quiet moments together.

Styling and session tips inspired by this shoot

For couples who want photos for save-the-dates or a wedding website, neutral layers and subtle texture photograph beautifully in late fall. Katie and Jax chose outfits that felt polished but comfortable, which helped them relax into the session. If one partner feels unsure about being photographed, candid movement and gentle prompts (walking, laughing, talking) can make the experience feel more like a date than a photo shoot.

A moment I won’t forget

One of the most memorable parts of the session happened right at the beginning. Jax’s mom brought her dogs to join in for a few photos, and she stood behind me enthusiastically barking to get their attention. I couldn’t stop laughing, and neither could Katie and Jax. It instantly broke the ice and set a playful tone for the rest of the shoot.
