Cozy In-Home Family Photos in Boulder, CO | Winter Lifestyle Session with a Family of Five
Photographing Zach and Gentry’s family felt especially meaningful because they’re friends of mine, and I was welcomed into their home during such a tender season of life. With a new baby and three kids total, their home was full of movement, noise, and sweetness in the best way. We spent the early afternoon baking cookies in the kitchen and then reading books and playing in the living room. It was relaxed, familiar, and very much them.
Their home was the perfect setting for this December session. The early afternoon light filtered softly through sheer curtains, creating a warm glow that wrapped around the whole family as they moved through their routines. Being indoors allowed everyone to stay comfortable and unhurried, which is especially helpful with young kids and a newborn. It felt natural and unposed, like stepping into a regular day together.
One of my favorite things about this session was their choice to wear casual, everyday clothes. Nothing felt overstyled or forced, which really supported the lived-in, documentary feel of the images. If you’re planning an in-home family shoot, I always recommend choosing outfits you’d actually wear around the house—soft textures, neutral tones, and clothes you can move in easily make a big difference.
Gentry’s newest daughter was born just three days after my son, and her middle child was born one day after my daughter. Being in their living room, watching light spill across the floor as they cuddled, read books, and held their baby, felt deeply familiar. It was quiet, warm, and full of the kind of closeness that happens when you let life unfold naturally.
Indoor family sessions are especially perfect for families who love a documentary-style approach and want photos that feel honest and personal. If you’re drawn to images that reflect your real rhythms—making snacks, sitting on the couch, laughing in your own space—this style of session might be just right for you.
If you’re expecting a new baby or simply want to remember this season of family life as it truly looks, I’d love to help you create something meaningful in your own home.
